Description: Childs Miniature Transferware Platter CHINESE BELLS Charles Meigh Staffordshire England c1835 This is hard to find child's miniature toy platter or meat plate c 1835. Originally part of a complete children's toy tea set or dinner service, the platter measures 5-3/4 inches long and 4-1/2 inches across with a scalloped edge and flat bottom. Very finely potted , transfer printed in a forest green with pearlware glaze. The pattern is called Chinese Bells, made by Charles Meigh in the Staffordshire district in England in the early to mid-19th century. The central image depicts two young children playing music on a set of Chinese bells, on a background of wild roses and a floral urn with a twisted rope border trim along the rim. The detailing is impeccable considering the diminutive size of the piece. The piece has no maker's mark. The platter is in great condition with no chips, cracks, stains or repairs. Stilt marks on the back side, original to the making. Minor typical firing imperfections consistent with age. The design is elegant and striking and will make a wonderful display and a rare addition to any collection of children's transferware or miniature doll's elegant dinner wares.
