Share the magic! ****** Perhaps one of Tenyo's most specific and limited audience effects, at least for all us magicians who perform outside of Japan. In Japan, this effect is immediately understood and is incredibly popular. Japanese magician/bartender, Shinpei Ogawa, built a huge reputation on this offbeat effect. But outside of Japan... well, it is pretty weird! The magician takes a paper napkin and begins to stuff it into his fist. (As described by Richard Kaufman in his fabulous Tenyo-ism books, the magician probably does not even explain what he is doing, just letting those watching try to figure out what is going on.) As the puzzled onlookers see the last of the napkin go into the fist, the magician shows a small green ball in his other hand. He places the small green ball into the fist, and when he opens his hand, the crumpled napkin and ball look like a Shumai (a small Chinese dumpling). Then it quickly becomes clear that it is no longer a napkin at all, but a realistic replica Shumai. (Restaurants in Japan often display realistic replica food, and so this replica Shumai is a very familiar sight in Japan.) I told you it was weird. But the offbeat surprise of the effect plays big-time in Japan. So if you have a gig coming up in Japan, or for the local Japanese Cultural Society in your area, well... this could be the hit of that show. But more likely, you have read this far because you are an avid Tenyo collector. Many Tenyo collectors passed on this item, because it was so strange and specialized for non-Japanese magicians. And also because it was quite expensive, retailing for about $45. (This because Tenyo spared no expense and went to the top "realistic food" maker in Japan to fabricate the prop. It is probably the highest quality fake Shumai that you have ever seen!) This item is still available, but most sellers have it only in the Japanese package, since the English language package has not been made for over a decade. Some sellers show the English package in their listing's photo, but will probably send you the recent Japanese package version which is readily available. If you are a Tenyo collector and want to get this offbeat item in the original ENGLISH package, still sealed and in MINT condition, that is what you get here. And for less than the original $45 price! Brand new and unused, sealed in original ENGLISH package +++++++++++ ***** Yes, we will combine multiple eBay wins into a single shipment to help lower the overall shipping costs.
