C1920 Adirondacks Watercolor. Lake George New York In Autumn. Signed Illegibly

Description: For sale is an exceptionally wonderful and charming circa 1920s to early 20th century, watercolor painting of the iconic Lake George in upstate New York. Lake George resides in the southern Adirondacks in Warren County New York, and is referred to as Queen of the American Lakes. This lake has been captured by nearly every prominent American landscape artist, including all of the important Hudson River school landscape artists of the 19th century This painting features a gorgeous view of the lake from the vantage of looking towards the lake through a grouping of birch trees and shoreline wildflowers with what is most likely a view of the peak of Black Mountain in the southern Adirondacks in the background. The signature looks legible, but also illigible at the same time. The last name appears to possibly be Bain but we are uncertain. The letters before that could be a reverse R and a conjoined M? Use your own discretion. The painting was framed probably in the 1940s in Middletown New York from a long disfunct framing company. We opened up the framing to look for some additional inscription. What we did find was the title, "Lake George in Autumn" on the reverse. The painting itself came out of a private estate in Middletown, New York in Orange County. That is all we know about its provenance. Overall The Painting is in great condition given its age. It is gallery framed and matted under glass. We would of course recommend to always replace any older matting with acid free and archival quality matting for longevity.
