Description: Classic mid-20th Century Burke & James 5x7 Commercial View Camera. This camera is equipped with a 4x5 back. 5x7 backs are out there if you look. The camera has front rise and fall, with a lot of swing and tilt. The rear standard has all those movements, albeit more limited. Pretty much everything works but there are some repairs to be made, tightening to be done, that will make it perform as new. It has a red bellow that is in pretty good shape. Light testing showed me four or five small pinholes that are easily patched. This camera is a project camera but can be made fully functional fairly easily and with some additional work, will be a thing of beauty. The lens with this is a Steinheil Munchen Culminon 210mm f4.5 in a Compound shutter. The shutter speeds are pretty good, the slow speeds are close and do not drag. There is a flash sync connection but that has not been tested. The glass is pretty clean with some dust and a bit of haze and a slight bit of fungus. Not bad for a lens that is likely at least 70 years old. This lens formula, as I recall, was a process lens but can be used for general photography and should produce nice images (think portraits). It is not marked VL that would signify an early coating. This lens appears to be uncoated. The last image is from a 1963 B&J catalog showing the camera that, I believe, was made from the 1930's to the 1970's. A cool way to get into large format film photography. I have film holders if you need some. Please inquire.Ships via USPS Ground Advantage.
