Description: Sand/bone sample collected from Bombay Beach/Salton Sea State Park in Imperial County, California. Bombay Beach and the Salton Sea are popular destinations for people from all over the world. The location I collected from is right on the edge of Bombay Beach and the State Park. There is approximately 2 tablespoons (tbsp) or 30 milliliters (ml) in each 2x3 bag. From a distance it looks like the shore is mostly white "Sand" but upon closer inspection, the "Sand" is actually a mixture of barnacles and fish bones and scales. The scales grow like crazy and die off all the time. The water is so salty and not good for fish, but there are millions of fish and there are massive fish die-offs several times a year. The shore becomes nothing but barnacles, scales and bones. Great purchase to add to your collection of minerals, sand, gravel, rocks, pebbles or other geological items. Great for educational use in the classroom or school, Christmas villages, model trains, arts & crafts, ceremonial, spiritual, religious, funerals and so much more. You can study the sand, do experiments or check the level of magnetic material in the sand.
