Description: This listing is for 1 pound of Black Soldier Fly Larvae Frass as an Organic soil amendment, top dressing, seed germination and propagation. Black soldier fly frass is a natural, organic fertilizer with balanced nutrients for your plants. It is the perfect boost for your garden! Our larvae are fed with a custom blend of an all-natural, vegetarian diet. The resulting digestion product, Insect Frass or BSFL Black Soldier Fly Larvae Frass, is a nutrient-rich, organic fertilizer full of macro and micronutrients for your garden and indoor plants. HIGH IN NITROGEN : - Low C/N ratio of 14 that promotes rapid mineralization and faster nutrient release - Low addition rate of 2% into soils and potting mixes can bring noticeable improvements FULL OF BENEFICIAL MICROORGANISMS : - Beneficial microbes for soil health improvement - Boosted nutrient content promotes seed germination and early development INSECT CHITIN : - Chitin is a NATURAL way to boost plants defense against fungus and disease Insect Frass - Black Soldier Fly Larvae - Derived from an incredible company in Canada all from the digestate of black soldier fly larvae. In all natural ecosystems (where there are no man-made chemical pesticides), insects feed on and digest vegetation, and give it right back to plants in the form of nature's perfect plant food. Plants benefit insects - Insects benefit plants! 100% Organic plant food, and so much more... Estimated NPK Value of 3-2-4 Weighs roughly 4 oz per cup. Insect Frass naturally contains the nutrition plants require, beneficial micro-organisms, and the only immediately plant-available source of chitin. Chitin fortifies a plant from the inside out, causing an "auto-immune" response that signals a plant to produce natural toxins which fend off its natural enemies like pests and fungal pathogens. The EPA says that chitin and chitosan defend against botrytis (grey mold), powdery mildew, early and late blight, fungal pathogens in the root zone (root rot) and root-feeding nematodes. Insect Frass does NOT cause a plant to kill beneficial insects or beneficial nematodes. Insect Frass is NOT a pesticide. Insect Frass is NOT a fungicide. Insect Frass will NOT put insects into your garden. Give your plants all the benefits of Insect Frass, without the bugs! HOW TO USE: AMENDING SOIL - ( 1 cubic foot of soil ): To amend 1 cubic foot of soil, you can mix in 1/4 up to 1 cup of BSFL frass depending on the plant species. This will provide a good balance of nutrients and microorganisms to support plant growth. You can mix the frass into the top 6-8 inches of soil, or better yet incorporate/mix it into the entire cubic foot of soil prior to planting anything in it. Add Dolomite Lime or Gypsum or Oyster Shell Flour to raise soil pH if necessary at a rate of 1/2 to 1 cup per per cubic foot or 20g to 30g per gallon of soil. Optimal soil pH especially for Peat Moss-based soil, should be between 6.2 & 6.5 is the sweet spot, but as long as it's between 6.0 & 7.0 your crops will grow healthy unless, it's acidic soil loving plants like azaleas, etc. TOP DRESSING - (per gallon of soil): For top dressing, you can use a smaller amount of BSFL frass. A good starting point is to use 1/2 to 2 tablespoons of frass per gallon of soil depending on plant species. You can sprinkle the frass on the surface of the soil and water it in, or the preferred way mix it into the top 1-2 inches of soil. FREQUENCY OF APPLICATION: The frequency of application depends on the specific needs of your plants and the soil conditions. Here are some general guidelines: FOR SEEDLINGS or young plants, you can top dress with BSFL frass every 1-2 weeks to provide a boost of nutrients. FOR ESTABLISHED plants, you can top dress every 2-4 weeks to maintain soil fertility and promote healthy growth. If you're using BSFL frass as a soil amendment, you can reapply every 1-2 months to maintain soil fertility. BEST TIME TO APPLY Early in the Growing Season: It's best to apply BSFL frass at the beginning of the growing season or when preparing/amending/mixing your garden beds/containers/fields. This gives plants a nutrient boost right when they need it most. WATER-SOLUBLE FOR USE IN HYDROPONICS AND FERTIGATION: Add 1/4 to 1 cup of BSFL frass to 1 gallon of water and let it sit for 10-20 minutes or stir it heavily for a couple of minutes to release all the nutrients into the solution and then add it to your hydroponic reservoir or feed as a root drench every 1 to 2 months because it will be a very concentrated solution. Start at lower doses and work your way up because some plant species are more sensitive than others. IMPORTANT NOTES: BSFL frass is high in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, so be cautious not to overapply, as this can lead to nutrient imbalances. BSFL frass can also be high in pH, so it's best to mix it with other amendments or soil to balance out the pH. It's recommended to use a balanced fertilizer in conjunction with BSFL frass to ensure a complete nutrient profile for your plants. EXAMPLE APPLICATION SCHEDULE: Here's an example application schedule for using BSFL frass in your inorganic gardening WEEK 1 SEEDLING: Mix 1/2 cup of BSFL frass into 1 cubic foot of soil as an amendment. No other nutrients needed besides soil innoculant microbes like Real Grower's Recharge and/or EM-1, Kelp Extract Powder would be very beneficial to work in symbiosis. WEEK 2-3 VEG: Top dress with 1 tablespoon of BSFL frass per gallon of soil, Real Grower's Recharge and/or EM-1, Kelp Extract Powder. WEEK 4-5 VEG: Top dress with 1 tablespoon of BSFL frass per gallon of soil, Real Grower's Recharge and/or EM-1, Kelp Extract Powder. WEEK 6-8 TRANSITION & BLOOM: Top dress with 1 tablespoon of BSFL frass per gallon of soil, Real Grower's Recharge and/or EM-1, Kelp Extract Powder, Incredible Bulk (bloom booster). Remember to monitor your plant's response to the BSFL frass and adjust the application schedule as needed. Happy gardening! WHAT IS FRASS? Frass is the nutrient-rich waste produced by BSF larvae as they consume organic matter. Its a combination of decomposed material and the larvaes excretions, rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium essential nutrients for plant growth. Unlike synthetic fertilizers, frass is completely organic, making it an eco-friendly option for agriculture. NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION AND BENEFITS: Frass from BSF larvae contains a balanced mix of macro and micronutrients essential for healthy plant growth. It improves soil structure, enhances water retention, and fosters beneficial microbial activity in the soil. Its slow-release nature provides a sustained nutrient supply, promoting robust plant development. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND SUSTAINABILITY: The use of frass aligns with sustainable agricultural practices. It recycles organic waste, reducing landfill use and greenhouse gas emissions. Unlike chemical fertilizers, it doesnt lead to soil acidification or waterway eutrophication. Utilizing frass supports a circular economy, turning waste into a valuable agricultural resource. APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE AND GARDENING: Frass is versatile and can be used in various agricultural settings. LARGE-SCALE AGRICULTURE: As a sustainable fertilizer, improving crop yield and soil health. HOME GARDENING: Suitable for organic gardening, enhancing the growth of vegetables, fruits, and ornamental plants. LAND RECLAMATION: Used in rehabilitating degraded lands, restoring soil fertility.
