Description: Get free shipping for your entire order when you buy 3 or more shells at the same time. BIG! Conus aureus w/o #1 61.9mm, Hwass 1792, EXQUISITE BEAUTY from the Philippines . Collected by a diver in 60 feet of water, Palawan Island, Philippines, 2023. Normal 0 I actually found more aureus cones than any other shell while beachcombing on Kwajalein. Which was rather strange when I think about it, because the shell was very uncommon, even on Kwaj. I once wrote a short note to a friend about how I came to find them, and the experience is so interesting, it’s worth repeating here… I used to go fishing almost every day at the only pier on the island. When done, I would walk from the pier to the commissary, where I would find an old Marshallese man who would buy everything that I caught. Being thirteen years old at the time, the cash was great, because it gave me money to buy more fishing supplies and get a treat. Anyhow, to get from the pier to the commissary I had to cross a parking lot of crushed coral. And one day, while crossing that parking lot after a heavy down pour, I looked down, and there, buried in the crushed coral, exposed by the horrendous down pour of rain, (a very common event on Kwaj), was what I assumed to be just a broken piece of an aureus cone. But I was wrong, because after I pried it out, I found that I was holding---there in my hand in that parking lot---the first aureus cone that I had every found---an aureus cone every bit as nice as this one is! Yep, in the middle of a busy, heavily used parking lot! Now then, if you have ever found a dollar bill on the ground, you know what I did next... That’s right, I began scouting around to see if there was any other buried treasures, and there was! I found a dozen aureus cones of varying sizes, (none as nice as the first one, unfortunately) but even so, thanks to the Army Corps of Engineers, I was standing in the middle of a colony of once live aureus cones that had been dredged up by them long ago when they had made that parking lot! And yes, most of the shells still had dried animal in them! It was a wonderful experience, and yet, even to this day I marvel about what I did not do---you see, I never went back and checked out that parking lot again for more rare shells, huh! And you know, that’s the problem with growing old; you only remember the great chances that you missed! And this shell, even with the smooth scar on it s body near it's mouth, (more visible in the video than it is when you hold it) is a big, dark gorgoeus beauty that will look terrific sitting on your shelf! The perfect shell for a first-class collection. As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest! As for feedback, as your know, sellers live and die by the feedback you leaved, (please leave fives!) so if you have a problem, just let me know! After all, I'm retired, and all messages go directly to my phone, so unless I'm out shell collecting I will get back to you pronto-like! Shell collecting! Now there's a phrase that brings smiles to your eyes, doesn't it! Anyhow, if you have read this far, you have my apologies and best wishes from those of us at IslandShells323.
