Silkstone® (PBT): Mattes more expensive, collector’s edition Barbie's uses the more expensive Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), an engineering thermoplastic often found in Automotive and electronic items. Mattel’s custom formula is called “Silkstone,” and it gives Barbie's a more even and lifelike complexion. Through a series of testing, engineers made a strong, durable Barbie that can undergo serious abuse, according to a “Design News” article. Other features of PBT include high strength, toughness and stiffness, good creep resistance, dimensional stability and low moisture absorption characteristics. Face netting lifted to show features. a. Model Overview: The 2002 #4 Silkstone Lingerie Barbie was the fourth Lingerie doll in the Barbie Fashion Model Collection. Like the Silkstone Lingerie Dolls who came before her, she is wearing gold hoop earrings, reminiscent of the earrings worn initially by Vintage Barbie. For several reasons, the 4th Silkstone Barbie is the best of the lingerie doll line. First, Robert Best designed multiple lingerie pieces for this doll. While the 1st and 2nd Silkstone lingerie dolls had very simple white; identical outfits, and the 3rd doll wore lingerie that didn't have a snug fit. The #4 doll, in contrast, has a tight-fitting, light pink bra and white panties with attached stockings and pink heels (similar to the first two dolls but in color. The elegant pink, see through peignoir can be tied or left open. The short curly hair style allows a widest assortment of fashions and can accommodate all of Barbie® headwear.
