Description: Barbie has had MANY female friends over the years, and like Katherine Heigl’s Jane character in the movie “27 Dresses,” Barbie has been tasked to serve as the attentive maid of honor or bridesmaid in their weddings. The thing about bridesmaid dresses is that the bride picks them, assuring her maidens that “The best thing is, you can shorten it and wear it again.” And like Katherine’s character Jane Nichols, the dress usually ends up hanging in a closet waiting for an “again” that never comes along. My goal was to create that “again” for each of these bridesmaid’s dresses, continuing their journey from wedding day to an evening out. UBANKS—UBANKS WEDDING: The bride and groom had a history together. They had gotten married their first year of college after dating for only a month. They divorced a year later, the combination of pressures from married life and college life too much to juggle. Fast forward six years. He found her on Facebook and left a message that read “Six years ago, I let the wings fall off my heart. I have no regrets in my life except that one.” They took it slow the second time around and decided to give marriage another go two years after getting back together. The second wedding was small but included maid-of-honor Barbie and a best man in the person of the groom’s brother. During the exchange of vows, the bride surprised the groom with a pair of golden wings that she pinned over his heart, which brought tears to his eyes. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house after that. (Based on a true story.) With the bride-to-be at her side, Barbie chose her own dress for the wedding from a rack of unclaimed dresses at a bridal shop—a white dress with a gold leaf pattern and white rosette at the bodice. She also found some off-white heeled sandals to go with. The bouquets were fashioned from golden roses, white buds, and ivy leaves and branches, and the hair wreath used the same golden roses. On the occasion of her grandparent’s golden wedding anniversary, the dress came out of the closet, paired with a gold wrap, gold purse with leaf accents, and gold and white beaded jewelry—necklace, bracelet, earrings. The Fashionista Barbie modeling the ensemble is NOT included, BUT a wrapped gift for the happy couple IS included. I acquired the dresses for this project second hand, so they have seen some play time but have all been freshly laundered. I will note any imperfections. If the dress has a tag identifying it as an authentic Barbie fashion, which most are, I have included a photo. This collection was created for play but will also display nicely in a collection. Because of the jewelry and other embellishments, I would recommend this outfit for children who are old enough to manage delicate accessories. Please use good judgement. With the exception of the shoes, all of the accessories are one-of-a-kind creations made especially for this dress and this dress only.
