All editorial additions (i.e., corrections and changes which are not based on any of the above sources) are clearly differentiated from the text of this edition and appear within square brackets or, in the case of ties, bow- and phrase-markings, as dashed lines. Although this is only partially a critical edition, a table comparing authentic metronome markings and other tempo changes is appended. Its inclusion, it is hoped, will demonstrate Schoenberg's flexibility in this regard and will help the conductor in the selection of appropriate tempi and in his interpretation of the work as a whole.
