Use a water conditioner such as Seachem Prime or Brightwell Aquatic ShrimpPrep.Alternatively, you can age the tap water for 24-48 hours to allow the chlorine to evaporate naturally. If your aquarium is cycled, meaning it has an established population of beneficial bacteria that can handle the bioload of the shrimps; Skip to the drip acclimation process. This means that there is already a stable environment present which will reduce the risk of ammonia or nitrite spikes. If you are using RO (Reverse Osmosis) water with remineralization, skip to the drip acclimation process. Set Up the ContainerChoose a container that is clean and free of any contaminants. This will be the temporary home for your shrimps during the acclimation process.Have a drip acclimation kit ready that includes aquarium air tubing, and air valve control to set the amount of water drips per second, alternatively, you can tie a knot in the air tubing to slow down the water traveling from the main aquarium to the acclimation container. Check Your EquipmentEnsure you have all the necessary equipment ready:A water conditioner (if using tap water).A thermometer to monitor water temperature.A Drip Acclimation kit to acclimate the shrimps to their new environment.A net for transferring the shrimps. Stabilize the TemperatureMake sure the temperature in your aquarium is stable and within the suitable range for shrimps. You can use a heater or a cooling fan to adjust the temperature if needed. Test Water ParametersTest the water parameters of your aquarium and the container. Ideal parameters for shrimps typically include:pH: 6.5-8.0Temperature: 68-78°FAmmonia: 0 ppmNitrite: 0 ppmNitrate: <20 ppm Prepare for AcclimationSet up your Drip Acclimation kit. This will be used to gradually introduce your shrimps to the water in their new home, ensuring a smooth transition.Ensure the Drip Acclimation kit is clean and functioning properly.By following these steps, you will be well-prepared to receive your box of shrimps and ensure their successful acclimation to their new environment. What to Do When You Receive Your Box of Shrimps: Open the Box and Inspect the ShrimpsFirst, open the box and check for any DOA (Dead on Arrival) shrimps inside the bag.If there are no DOAs, proceed to step 2.If there are any DOAs, do not open the bag, take clear pictures of the dead shrimp to receive a refund per dead shrimp. NOTE: shipping is not refunded. Slowly pour the shipped water and shrimp into their empty temporary clean acclimation container.Remove the deceased shrimps and add enough water conditioner/dechlorinator (1-2 drops) into the shrimp acclimation container. This will help remove any toxins and ammonia caused by the dead shrimps. Recommended water conditioners are Seachem Prime or Brightwell Aquatic ShrimpPrep. Adjust the TemperatureLeave the shrimp in the acclimation container for 30-60 minutes to allow the water to reach room temperature. This process might take longer if the ambient temperature is too hot or cold.Important: Do NOT float breather bags in your aquarium as this can kill the shrimps. If you have a temperature tester, use it to ensure the water temperature in the container matches that of your aquarium. Drip AcclimationThis step is crucial to ensure the shrimps adapt to the water parameters of their new home.Use a Drip Acclimation kit, setting it to drip at a rate of 1 drop per 2-3 seconds from the aquarium into the container for about 30 minutes. Then, adjust the kit to drip at a rate of 1 drop per second for another 30 minutes.Monitor the shrimp acclimation container, and make sure it does not overflow.NOTE: the acclimation time will vary depending on the size of the shrimp acclimation container. A good rule of thumb is to use a container that can handle .5 - 1 gallon amount of water.Shrimp should be acclimated for about 8 hours so make sure you select a container that can handle the amount of water volume during this time. Transfer the ShrimpsUsing a net, gently transfer the shrimps into their new home.Do not add the water from the container back into the aquarium.Enjoy watching your new shrimps and relax!
