Description: This listing is for the old painting of a mountain stream that you see in the photos. I purchased it at an estate sale in Oregon where I was not told its history. I am guessing that it is a 19th century painting that has been apparently been expertly relined or re-backed or had the stretcher replaced at some considerable expense that makes me wonder if the artist might be known. It is not signed. The newer stretcher has a stamp on it that indicates that the stretcher was made by a shop in Washington DC.. I think that the style was influenced by the Hudson River School of painters. Please refer to the photos that I have provided of the reverse with the backing temporarily removed. I leave it to the buyer to decide how old it is where it was painted and what the style is. The frame measures close to 26 by 34 inches. The area of the painting exposed by the frame measures close to.19 1/2 by 27 1/4 inches. The framed painting weighs close to15 pounds. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. There is a small amount damage at the corners of the frame. The painting shows craquelure over much of its surface but the paint looks stable. Under strong magnification it looks to me like it might have been stabilized with a light varnish. There's one tiny white spot on the painting that looks like a a tiny amount of paint loss. Otherwise, the painting is fine and as shown. The back of the frame might benefit from a light cleaning. My photos should give you a good idea of the condition of the painting and frame. I guarantee this painting to be as described and represented by the photos. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. I allow two business days for shipping, but I usually ship the same or next day if possible. Please note that the lighting in my photos is uneven, and there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors; different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs "approximately" because no measurements are exact, and some things are difficult to measure.I like to leave feedback after I know that the item has arrived and that the buyer is satisfied. I reserve the right to cancel any bids without explanation. I sometimes purchase signature delivery for my more valuable packages because of the possibility of them being stolen off of a porch or damaged by weather. I often, but not always, ship the same or next day. Often, I have a double-walled box custom made for larger items, which might result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually made from biodegradable materials. Please email me with any questions or suggestions. I do not ship on weekends, and I might not be available to answer emails on weekends. Thanks for looking at my ad.
