Description: Sioux Hand-Carved Axe-Headed Catlinite Calumet Tomahawk, or Red Clay Pipe Bowl with Flat, Decorated Wood Handle, Antique c. 1880 Antique polished, hand-carved, red clay, catlinite calumet (stone pipe), c. 1880 is approx. 5.5 inches long is t-shaped with smooth carved bands and axe-shaped head. The notched design, and red and green geometric Sioux pattern painted ends perfectly accent the hand-carved flat wood stem, making this piece together an authentic Tomahawk. The calument, a symbol of peace, with the tomahawk handle, a tool for war. Believed to have been handcrafted by the Sioux Indians of the mid-late 19th Century American plains. Wood handle is approximately 21 inches long. Passed down from family friend, so I don't have many details.
