Ca 1886.1 Year WATCHSECONDS Antique Warranty This movement was likely produced by Tiffany & Co. in 1875 at the Tiffany & Co. factory at Place Cornavin in Geneva Switzerland. This factory which was built in 1874 by Tiffany & Co. was shared with Patek Philippe and Cie and later sold in 1878 to Patek Philippe to use exclusively in the production of Patek Philippe watch movements. Make: Tiffany & Co. Serial #: 16261 (from movement) Year: (approximate) 1875 movement Country: Switzerland Case Shape and Material: Substantial round full hunter 18k solid gold case 39mm in diameter with box hinges - one front dial cover and back cover with inside exhibition see-thru movement cover. Push down crown release front cover is engraved with flowery Victorian script initials G.R.M.F. Hinged snap on back cover is engraved "1886" in intricate script. Inside of back cover is engraved with the dedication "Gracie R. McFarland Christmas 1886" and hallmarked "Tiffany & Co. N.Y. 18K" and the number "16261". Covers have coin edge stamping and side of middle has a fine hobnail type pattern. Lugs: N/A Monogram: GRMF in flowing Victorian script on front. Movement: Antique Swiss hi grade 18 jewel movement balance and escape wheel fully jeweled with cap jewels, center wheel top pivot is jeweled for a total of 18 jewels. Movmt Type: rare early Tiffany Geneva pre-Patek movement dates to around 1875 which is three years prior to Tiffany & Co.'s sale of their Geneva factory at Place Cornavin to Patek Philippe. I have included an ad from 1874 announcing the new Tiffany factory in Geneva and a photo of a certified Patek movement from 1886. The layout and design of the Patek movement from 1886 is very similar to the Tiffany movement and it would be surprising if they did not originate at the same factory at Place Cornavin in Geneva. Another interesting feature of this movement is a slide lever mechanism in the front bezel for setting the time (under front cover) see photos. In the up position this lever permits setting the hands to the correct time by turning the pendant. To return the movement to the pendant winding position simply slide the lever down. This movement also has wolf;s tooth winding wheels and generally high quality and a high grade finish.Movmt Condition: very good, winds sets, keeps time to within 1 minute per day in both the face up position and the vest pocket position (pendant up position). Movement appears to be a Tiffany Geneva movement from 1875 prior to Tiffany selling the factory to Patek Philippe in 1878. Full hunter case is made from 18k gold and is in very nice condition with no dings, dents or other major issues. Watch has a rare one-of-a kind slide lever setting mechanism.
