Description: Land and Sea. Having just listed more 500 year old fishing lures than anyone else on Ebay I thought I would mix it up with a few land based artifacts. Next to the knife, the adze was the most important utilitarian tool available to the ancient Alaskan hunter. This chert blade could easily be one of the earliest artifacts in Alaska, surviving the ravages of 1000s of Alaskan winters undiminished. Designed to take the impact of thousands of blows without failing that it survives today intact, when tools made by more "advanced" cultures of the period have long turned to dust is a testament to ingenuity of these earliest of Alaskan cultures.
