The short throw adapter and rocker upgrade help to reduce both gear throw (forward/back motion) and gate spacing (left/right motion) while stiffening up gear engagement and lateral feel. The shift cable bushings and shifter base bushings help to remove unwanted compliance from OEM rubber bushings to help remove flex while improving tactile response during hard shifts. The upgraded centering spring helps to quicken centering action for a snappier feel while removing unwanted lateral play while in gear or in neutral. Add the interior panel removal tools as affordable protection against damaging interior panels during installation. Note that some vehicle trims will require the use of one of our 1924 shift boot collars to hold the shift boot up when using an aftermarket knob like our ESCO-T6, ESCO Insulated, or ESCO-Ti designs. For many drivers, that's ideal. Unfortunately, this disconnects the driver from feeling the transmission during shifts, often leading to missed shifts or slow shifting in racing conditions. A less compliant plastic or metal bushing is the ideal solution, but without a spherical bearing, the bushing will cause the cables to bind and fatigue. That's why ACUITY has designed this kit with a custom acetal and aluminum spherical bushing. This Short Throw Adapter reduces the mechanical advantage of the shift lever to deliver 20% shorter gear throws. 300 series stainless steel construction makes these Short Throw Adapters strong and highly corrosion resistant. Acuity's unique clamping design ensures the adapter will stay fastened, even with a modest amount of torque. By reducing the throw at the shifter, you are effectively reducing the play in the shifter cables by the same amount you are reducing the throw. When the throw is reduced at the transmission, the play from the cables remains the same while the throw is reduced. This is the primary motivation for Acuity's choice to design short throw adapters that affix to the shifter rather than the transmission. Each kit includes an alcohol wipe so that the shift lever can be cleaned before installation. No grease is required when installing this product as the included PTFE pivot cap is self-lubricating. 7.5mm (0.3") thick spacers are also included to raise the height of the shifter slightly to help the short throw adapter clear the frame the shifter mounts to, and the included self-retaining washers help to keep the spacers in place during installation. Altered geometry reduces the mechanical advantage of the rocker to provide 10% narrower gates and a stiffer shift feel in the lateral (left/right) direction. Much like how a short throw adapter reduces the distance in the longitudinal (forward and reverse) direction while changing gears, this Shifter Rocker Upgrade reduces the distance in the lateral (left and right) direction while changing gates (shifts between gears 2/3 or 4/5). 6061 aluminum is used in place of the OEM plastic, meaning less flex when shifting forcefully and better feedback from the transmission during shifts. The rocker's main pivot uses a precision bronze bushing to reduce play and friction. ACUITY's unique patent-pending spherical joint design incorporates low-friction, self-lubricating bushings that reduce friction while naturally eliminating play in the joint.
