Please know that before you use the molcajete to make food, you will NEED to CURE it. Curing it requires you to grind some rice with a little bit of water. Grind the rice down for about 15 minutes until it turns into a mush. You should see small bits of rock that should fall off. This is done to grind away any small bits of stone that should fall off before use. This process only has to be done one time to assure no small pieces of stone fall into your food. CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS: You can clean it with a small amount of soap and water. If you feel that this is not enough, since the molcajete is porous, you can burn it directly on top of your burner for 15 minutes, or put it in the oven and cook it on high (500F) for an hour. Since it is volcanic lava rock not wierd smells should come from it. Be aware that once you heat up your molcajete it will stay hot for up to an hour.
