Description: Presented is a superb quality French silver 48 piece buffet flatware set, dating to 1819-1838. This set is made from French first standard silver, which has a purity of 950. It's worth noting that this is a higher standard of silver purity than sterling, which is 925. The set is done in a handsome, classical Fiddle Thread pattern. The pieces have a rich, high karat gold wash. This is a really fantastic buffet set, with a full complement of 24 forks and 24 spoons. This set is in great overall condition. There is some minor wear to the gold wash, chiefly to the high points and to the backs of the bowls of the spoons. One fork has had a professional repair to the tip of the handle, which was very well done and hard to notice. There are no monograms, no monogram removals, and no other repairs. Each piece is stamped on the back of the stem with the French first standard hallmark of a man's head in profile in an octagonal punch with the numeral 1, as used between 1819-1838 for 950 purity silver, as well as the guarantee mark of Diana's head in a round punch, and a maker's mark we unfortunately cannot identify. On the front of the stem, opposite the guarantee mark, is an insect counterstamp. Each spoon is about 7 1/4 inches long. Each fork is about 7 1/8 inches long. The total weight for the set is 2686 grams or 94.7 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
