It’s rare to find lap desks in this combination of woods, and that leads me to believe it was made in America, likely back east where antique furniture made of Birdseye Maple often originated. The lap desk is in excellent overall condition, with no damage, losses, or repairs. It is also fully intact, with its original pen tray, hardware, lock and key. And, the lock still works. The red velvet writing surface also appears to be original The lap desk also includes a glass ink well that fits perfectly, but I’m not sure if it’s original to the piece. Regardless, it looks nice in the lab desk. Closed Measurements: 13.5” W x 10.25 ” D x 6.0” H; double the depth when open.
