Description: 1965 WORLD SERIES Los Angeles Dodgers vs Minnesota Twins A beautiful quality full-color DVD of the 1965 World Series is now available from Rare Sportsfilms! This is the finest video reproduction ever made of this memorable series, narrated by Dodger voice Vin Scully. The DVD also has a B & W special at the beginning, “Leo Durocher’s World Series Scouting Report”, on both teams and what to look for in the upcoming series. You’ll see the heavy-hitting Twins featuring Harmon Killebrew, Bob Allison, Jimmy Hall, Tony Oliva, Don Mincher, Earl Battey and A.L. MVP Zoilo Versalles matching up with the great speed, defense and pitching of the Dodgers: Maury Wills, Willie Davis, rookie Wes Parker, vet Jim Gilliam, Ron Fairly, Lou Johnson, Claude Osteen, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax! See highlights, outstanding plays and home run excitement of all seven games of the series, played at Dodger Stadium and old Metropolitan Stadium, the Twins’ first ballpark in Minnesota! Here’s a rundown on what you’ll see: Game 1 at Met Stadium: Behind the strong pitching of Twins 21-game winner Jim Grant, and homers by first baseman Mincher and MVP Versalles, the Twins win the opener 8-2 at Met Stadium. Ron Fairly’s solo HR in the Dodger second is the first score of the series, but Mincher retaliates for the Twins in the bottom of the inning. Versalles’ shot in the Twin’s 6-run third K.O.s losing pitcher Don Drysdale, and Frank Quilici’s 2 hits in the frame tie a World Series record. Game 2 at Met Stadium: Next day on a rain-soaked field, 26-game winner Koufax matches zeros with Twins ace lefty Jim Kaat thru five innings. The greatest catch of the series is pulled off by leftfielder Bob Allison in the Dodger 5th with one one base. Jim Lefebvre’s curving drive into the corner is grabbed, as Allison skids almost 20 feet across the foul line in wet grass and mud! Third baseman Jim Gilliam’s error in the sixth opens the door for two Twin tallies, and Minnesota goes on to win 5-1. Leaving for Los Angeles with a 2-0 lead in the series and having just beaten Drysdale and Koufax on successive days, the Twins appear to be in good shape. Game 3 at Dodger Stadium: A 5-hit 4-0 shutout by Dodger 15-game winner Claude Osteen stops the Twins momentum in the third game at Dodger Stadium. John Roseboro’s two-run single in the fourth off starter Camilio Pascual is the big blow of the game. Game 4 at Dodger Stadium: After lasting only 2+ innings in game 1, Don Drysdale strikes out 11 in game 4 and racks up a 7-2 victory. Both Twins runs come on solo homers by Killebrew and Oliva. Wes Parker and Lou Johnson homer for L.A. Game 5 at Dodger Stadium: Behind Koufax’s 7-0, 3-hit shutout, the Dodgers win their third straight at Dodger Stadium and take the lead for the first time in the series. Here you’ll see Dodger style baseball at its best: 11 singles, (plus 3 doubles) 4 SBs, 4 DPs, no errors and Koufax’ s great pitching! Game 6 at Met Stadium: Back at The Met for the close of the series, righthander Jim Grant, with only two days rest, steals the show. Walking none in his second complete game victory of the series, he also smacks a three-run homer that wraps up the game in the sixth inning. Twins 5, Dodgers 1 Game 7 at Met Stadium: This time it’s Koufax who starts with only two days rest vs. Jim Kaat in another battle of lefties, and Sandy is brilliant (his last World Series victory). Shutting down the powerful Twins on only three hits, he tosses a 2-0 shutout, his second of the series. The Dodgers score both of their runs in the fourth, the first on another HR by Lou Johnson. The turning point of the game comes in the Twins fifth. With two on, Versalles smashes a shot down the third base line, normally good for extra bases. But Gilliam dives to his right and makes a back-handed grab of the ball, then steps on third forcing Quilici and taking all the steam out of the Twins comeback bid. Koufax strikes out Earl Battery and dangerous Bob Allison in the last of the ninth to end the series. Dodger skipper Walt Alston becomes the N.L.’s winningest World Series manager with his fourth World Championship!
