Description: For sale today is the exceptionally rare key of the 1923 $1 Silver Certificates. This is the Fr 239 with the Woods-Tate signature. This was an extremely short printing with few plates made of this type. They kept the Speelman-White and Woods-White plates going along side these to the end of the printing so they make up a tiny percentage of the population. This was the last signature on any large size US currency, Woodchoppers stopped at the Woods-White signature so this is the only series to carry the Tate signature before the switch to small size notes. These $1 Silver Certificates were true workhorses of the American economy and were once redeemable for an actual silver dollar. They were affectionately referred to as horse blankets due to their size or cogwheels. This note grades a gorgeous XF in my opinion. Crisp and clean with great paper and color. Sharp corners and margins. Just shows light handling and folds. Please check pics and judge condition for yourself. These are tough to find in a decent grade. This lists at $275 in VF and $475 in XF in Friedberg. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
