Description: THE PRODUCT: Great Radium Springs Water Company Incorporated started as a business in about 1901 when Fred M. Osteyee began bottling water to sell from Pittsfield's Pine Crest Spring. The business was incorporated in 1915 and opened the Pittsfield branch in 1916. The company closed about 1920. The company sold sodas in a variety of flavors including: Ginger Ale, Sarsaparilla, Orange, Birch Beer, Root Beer and Lemon. CITATION: This information was found in an article titled, "Great Radium Spring Water Co. Bottles" on the ORAU (Oak Ridge Associated Universities) website. THE BOTTLE: Embossed on the back of the bottle in 4 lines: GREAT RADIUM / SPRING WATER CO. INC. / PITTSFIELD / MASS.. No other numbers or marks on the bottle except a '1' on the front of the bottle at the heal, (most likely a mold number). Aqua blue, machine made, 12 fluid ounces, about 9 1/4 inches tall and 2 5/16 inches in diameter at the base.(A label with a product name such as 'Mayflower Ginger Ale' would have been attached to the front / blank side) A small shallow chip in the body of the bottle as shown in the 4th photo, some light abrasion, overall a nice bottle with a few minor imperfections.
