Description: A SUPERB COPY OF THIS SPECIAL GENEALOGICAL BOOK ON EDWARD SPALDING AND DESCENDANTS! Fully titled, The Spalding Memorial: A Genealogical History of Edward Spalding of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay and his Descendants. FIRST THUS EDITION, authored by Charles Warren Spalding and published by American Publishers' Association in 1897. There was a version published in 1872 with the same title, but only 619 pages, less than half of the number of pages in this copy. I'm unclear as to how these versions differ. Very clean brown cloth boards with gilt front board and spine titling, unrubbed. Boards with very light corner and edge wear. Floral endpapers, gilt on all page edges, very solidly bound with no interior marks in 1276 pages. Tissue-protected plates throughout, including a color frontispiece on the family coat of arms. Stunning photogravure tissue-protected portraits throughout, WITH NO FOXING ON THESE PLATES OR ELSEWHERE. The only wear issue I can note is that there is some paper degradation of the title page at the spine - see listing photos. The page is still attached, but it may behoove the next owner to put a few books in a reinforcement done professionally of this title page. There is light age-toning around page edges as seen in listing photos. Found in the book was a previous owners typed 3-page summary of what I presume is his/her specific lineage in this family.
