Description: 1878 P VAM 146, Top 30 1878 Variety Morgan Silver Dollar. Die gouges through E, R, and Y in LIBERTY, doubled 7 and profile, open o in God, repaired r in trust, and over polished wings. Obverse - In LIBERTY, prominent diagonal die gouges through bottom of E and top of R, and less prominent die gouge through middle of Y. Slight doubling of the right side of 7 in date. Weak nostril from over polishing. Slightly doubled profile on lips, chin, and upper neck. Point of 4th right star is slightly broken. Incomplete cap band. Reverse - Open o in God. The r in trust shows signs of deterioration and being reworked with a smaller crossbar. The middle of eagle's wings are over polished. From over polishing, engraved wing feather between right wing and leg appears as a vertical bar in the opening. Doubled D in Dollar. Parallel arrow feather and short nock.
