Description: As silver coins became hoarded and replaced in commerce with fractional currency, Philadelphia mintages of Seated Quarters dropped annually between 1861 and 1865. 1863 saw a mintage of just 191,600 pieces, compared to the 4,853,600 quarters struck in 1861. Even with its reduced mintage, the 1863 is not a particularly rare coin however the high-end offered here is among the very finest. PCGS reports 13 finer and only six finer have earned CAC approval. Fully struck surfaces are beautifully lustrous with satiny to semi-prooflike effect beneath the patina of blended golden-tan, pearly-grey, and subtle blue toning. Clashed and featuring some parallel striations, as made, on the reverse the overall eye appeal is fantastic! - Liberty Seated Quarter
