Description: I have here for sale a book entitled WALES ILLUSTRATED IN A SERIES OF VIEWS Comprising the Picturesque Scenery, Towns, Castles, Seats of the Nobility & Gentry, Antiquities, etc., Engraved on Steel from Original Drawings by HENRY GASTINEAU Accompanied by Historical and Topographical Description published by Jones & Co., London, in 1830. First edition. The book begins with a general history of Wales and includes a vignette on the title page and 40 beautiful b/w plates, each showing two illustrations of places of interest selected by the artist Half bound in dark green leather with gilt edging on brown cloth boards. Scuff marks to the leather with minor marks on the boards. Five raised bands with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Wear to the leather along the hinge and at the bottom of the spine where it is torn. Marbled endpapers and page edges. Two bookplates on the front endpaper. Stains to the title page and to the bottom corners of pages and plates. Browning to some pages. Evidence of book worm on last page and flyleaf. All pages are firm and the book is in very good condition for its age. 92 pages plus plates. 28 x 22 cm.We have over 2000 items in our Ebay shop on a wide range of subjects, so please feel free to have a browse and see if and anything else takes your fancy.
